Here are some immediate things you can do around your home to reduce your electricity bill:
- Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL) or LED bulbs
- Review usage of halogen lights – high wattage lamps require more power and burn very hot – transformers used to power them are on even if the light is off
- Many electrical products and appliances still draw power even if turned off – unplug them while not in use or use a power strip or surge protector and turn the switch off
- Use LED lights for holiday, landscape, or accent lighting
Next steps you can do to reduce your electricity bill:
- Replace your old thermostat with a new programmable thermostat
- Use or install ceiling fans instead or using air conditioners
- Have old fluorescent magnetic ballasts replaced with new electronic ballasts
- Have motion/occupancy sensors, dimmers, photosensors, and/or timers installed to save on your lighting costs
